Koen Mazoudier faces Sam Beck in a middleweight bout on November 26 at the GCCEC on the Gold Coast, Australia. The contest is featured on the undercard of Nikita Tszyu vs Ben Mahoney.
- Australia’s Mazoudier (15-4-1, 6 KOs) was scheduled to face two-division champion Jermall Charlo (34-0, 23 KOs) of Lafayette, Louisiana, in Sydney in July.
- The fight was canceled after Charlo was denied a visa.
According to No Limit Boxing promoter George Rose, Mazoudier will face Charlo next if he beats Beck (8-1, 5 KOs).
“Should he get through this fight he will fight Jermall Charlo in his next bout,” Rose said during a press conference on Monday.
“He’s got a lot on the line here. Not only does he have a tough opponent, but if he wins he gets that massive fight against a global superstar. We are now in the final stages of locking away that fight.”
- Going up against Beck, Mazoudier aims for his fourth straight win since his loss to Nikita Tszyu two years ago. The 30-year-old native of Blacktown, New South Wales, was last in action last December, defeating Dominic Molinaro by split decision.
- Beck of New Zealand comes off a second-round knockout victory over Jatsada Pithakdanthai, also in December. With the win, the Gold Coast-based 30-year-old rebounded from his defeat to Brock Jarvis last August.
“I’m looking straight at Sam Beck. I’m not worrying about anyone else,” Mazoudier said.
“Charlo’s a dog for not getting here in the first place, I think it was his fault it didn’t go ahead. But it is what it is.”
“He was talking about having the best camp he’d ever had, meanwhile getting done for DUIs and getting arrested. How good can your camp be? Doesn’t sound like a real serious athlete to me.”
- In the main event, Sydney southpaw Nikita Tszyu (12-0, 10 KOs) faces Gold Coast’s Ben Mahoney (17-0-1, 9 KOs) in an all-Australian IBF super welterweight title eliminator.
