The welterweight bout between Jose Ramirez and Jack Catterall is expected to headline a Matchroom Boxing card at the Save Mart Center in Fresno, California, on May 30.
DAZN, which streams Matchroom’s cards, reported last week that Catterall was “likely” to face Ramirez. On Tuesday, veteran boxing journalist Dan Rafael posted that the two welterweights “have a deal in principle” to square off, citing “a source with knowledge of the agreement” on his Fight Freaks Unite Substack.
Former unified super lightweight champion Ramirez (29-3, 18 KOs) of Avenal, California, lost two fights in a row against Devin Haney and Arnold Barboza Jr. The 33-year-old’s previous victory dates back to April 2024, when he scored a unanimous decision over Rances Barthelemy.
Former title challenger Catterall (32-2, 14 KOs) of Chorley, England, has secured two victories since dropping a split decision to Barboza last April. The 32-year-old southpaw is coming off a stoppage win over Ekow Essuman, which followed a technical decision against Harlem Eubank.
The official announcement, along with ticket information and bouts featured on the undercard, is expected shortly.
