After three years since his defeat to Terence Crawford, Errol Spence Jr. is set to make his return to the ring against Tim Tszyu. The contest is expected to take place this summer, with the exact date, location, and venue yet to be confirmed.
Long Island’s former unified welterweight champion Spence (28-1, 22 KOs) was stopped by Crawford in the ninth round of their battle for the undisputed 147-pound title in July 2023 in Las Vegas. The 35-year-old southpaw was previously expected to make his comeback against Sebastian Fundora, but the fight never materialized.
Tszyu (26-3, 18 KOs), who held the WBO 154-pound title, defeated Anthony Velazquez by unanimous decision late last year to bounce back from a stoppage defeat to Fundora in July. Before facing Spence, the 31-year-old Sydney native is expected to take a tune-up fight in Australia.
While the bout has not been officially announced, Ring Magazine reported Spence’s return against Tszyu, citing sources. In a follow-up, Fox Sports Australia reported that Tszyu’s fight in front of his home crowd could be featured on the same card as Lewis Crocker’s IBF welterweight title defense against Liam Paro.
Making his return against Tszyu, Spence is also expected to make his super welterweight debut.
Further details are expected to follow shortly.
