Reina Tellez faces Juliana Basualdo on Han vs Holm 2 undercard

Tellez returns after defeat to Amanda Serrano, while Basualdo aims for her second win in a row

Reina Tellez returns to the ring on May 30 to face Juliana Vanesa Basualdo on the undercard of Stephanie Han vs Holly Holm 2. The event takes place at the El Paso County Coliseum in El Paso, Texas, marking the third edition of MVPW. The bout is scheduled for eight rounds.

Previously announced for the prelims, Tellez (13-1-1, 5 KOs) of Vero Beach, Florida looks to rebound from a loss.

  • The San Antonio-based contender suffered her first career defeat in January, when she unsuccessfully challenged Amanda Serrano for her unified WBA and WBO featherweight titles, falling short by unanimous decision.
  • The contest saw the 23-year-old making her first attempt to become a champion in a short-notice fight as a replacement for Erika Cruz.

“Facing Amanda Serrano taught me more in one fight than I could have imagined,” Tellez said. “Stepping into that moment as a late replacement forced me to grow mentally and professionally. I learned the importance of preparation at the championship level, staying composed under pressure, and believing in myself regardless of the circumstances. Even in defeat, I gained experience that will help shape the rest of my career.”

Stepping through the ropes next Saturday in El Paso, Tellez takes on Argentina’s Basualdo (14-7, 3 KOs), who targets her second win in a row.

  • In her previous outing last November, Basualdo knocked out Lucrecia Belen Arrieta in the second round of their super bantamweight bout.
  • With the victory, the 35-year-old bounced back from a split decision loss to Mikiah Kreps in her U.S. debut a month earlier.

“There’s always something special about fighting in Texas,” Tellez said. “The support, the culture, and the energy from the fans make it feel personal. This is where so much of my journey has taken place, and to come back here after a fight like the Serrano bout means a lot to me. I’m excited to show everyone how much I’ve grown.”

“A strong win here keeps me moving forward toward bigger fights and another world title opportunity. I’m still learning, still improving, and still hungry. The Serrano fight gave me confidence that I belong on that level, and now it’s about continuing to build and proving I belong with the best. I know Basualdo will be coming with everything she’s got, and I’ll be ready.”

In the main event, El Paso’s Stephanie Han (12-0, 3 KOs) defends her WBA lightweight title in a rematch against former boxing and UFC champion Holly Holm (34-3-3, 9 KOs) of Albuquerque, New Mexico.

In the co-feature, Puerto Rico’s Amanda Serrano (48-4-1, 31 KOs) defends her unified WBA and WBO featherweight titles against Germany’s Cheyenne Hanson (17-2, 13 KOs).
