Fundora defends IBF flyweight title against Cruz on Jan 27 live on DAZN

Gabriela Fundora has her next fight date made official for Saturday, January 27 at Footprint Center in Phoenix, AZ, where she faces Christina Cruz. Undefeated newly-crowned IBF flyweight champion makes the first defense of her belt against unbeaten contender. The pair battles it out on the card headlined by Jaime Munguia vs John Ryder.

Coachella-based Gabriela Fundora (12-0, 5 KOs) claimed the title against former champion Arely Mucino via fifth-round stoppage last October. In April and February 2023, the 21-year-old southpaw of Palm Beach, FL defeated Maria Micheo Santizo and Tania Garcia Hernandez by unanimous decision, respectively.

Fort Lauderdale-based Christina Cruz (6-0) was in action last October, when she scored a unanimous decision against Josefina Vega. In August and January 2023, the 41-year-old native of New York, NY similarly defeated Nancy Franco and Amy Salinas, respectively.

“I am ready and prepared for my first title defense and I feel like nothing can stop me from winning,” Gabriela Fundora said. “Christina Cruz is a good fighter, but I am building my legacy as a champion and no one can stop me.”

In the main event, Mexico’s former WBO super welterweight champion Jaime Munguia (40-0, 33 KOs) takes on John Ryder (32-6, 18 KOs) of the UK. The pair squares off in a 12-round bout at super middleweight.

Other bouts featured on the card are expected to be announced shortly.
